"God has given each of us gifts from His great variety of SPIRITUAL GIFTS. Use them well to serve one another." 1 Peter 4:10
The story of Martha and Mary can help set our life in order. It carries a message of priorities. Jesus and His disciple's arrived at the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary. Jesus loved this family and often visited them, He appreciated the differences among His friends and felt comfortable enough to offer constructive advise as to their priorities.
Notice our title today does not say Martha and Mary? It say's Martha or Mary!
If you associate your personality or lifestyle to Martha, you may have a spiritual gift of "Hospitality" or "Service." An act of service done in genuine love for Jesus. You have a heart devoted to Jesus and care deeply for His people. You may have an ability to multitask and are very detailed oriented. You have a heart for other's needs. However...You sometimes wish you could be Mary.
If you associate your personality or lifestyle to Mary, you may have a spiritual gift of "Faith." (separate from saving faith). You have a confidence, certainty, and assurance in the object of your faith, "Jesus." You feel deeply and focus all your attention on what drives your heart. Details are not as important to you. You are a deep thinker and focus on one thing at a time. You long to sit at the feet of Jesus. However...You sometimes wish you could be Martha.
Guess what dear ones?... God wants you to be both!
Martha cared for Jesus needs, this can be used as an example to care for His children, being His voice, His hands, His feet. Mary sat at Jesus feet, this can be an example to always put Jesus first in your life, your day. Reminding you to be in the Word and in prayer.
God created Martha and Mary with different personalities and spiritual gifting's. Both could serve Him, love Him, and worship Him in different ways, all equally valuable. My friends, this is the same for us today. When we begin our day in His presence He will set our hearts on a course to bless others.
"His master said to him, "Well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master." Matthew 25:21.
