Bitterness

"Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12:19

Have you battled to find the grace to forgive that person or person's that broke your heart into a million tiny pieces? But wait, shouldn't that person that offended you apologize to you first? Oh my friend, if you believe that, you will spend a lifetime in bitterness. Did you know that apologies must be willingly given? They can not be taken. If you have been deeply hurt and feel like you need an apology to move past it, you will move from hurt, to anger, to hatred. There is no room in a Christians heart for hate! One of the most profound examples of forgiveness, without vindication, is Jesus Christ hanging on the Cross. Listen to what He said? "Father, Forgive them." Wow! If the person that grievously offended you doesn't apologize listen to God promises; "The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." (Exodus 14:14). Give all the broken pieces of your heart to God. Is it easy? Not at all! In fact, without complete empting of our heart, it is impossible. Allow God to plant love where bitterness wants to take root.

This is so good! A lot of times we don't get an apology and Jesus expects us to forgive as we have been forgiven. And I realized that it is the only way to heal and move on with my life. Easy to do?, nope, but necessary.
