Why We Celebrate Christmas

Why We Celebrate Christmas

"And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at His  birth." Luke 1:14.

Food for Thought... Each year, as December 25th nears and the profound “spirit” of Christmas takes hold, Christians and non-believers alike will come together and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Not all our family celebrates Christmas. I respect that. Should we as a Christian celebrate Christmas? Although the exact date of Jesus birth is not recorded in the Scriptures, the Bible neither commands us to celebrate Jesus birthday nor tells us not to celebrate it. In the end, I believe that Romans 14:5-6 provides the most definitive answer. Paul, while discussing disputable matters, says, "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord."  In truth, I believe to celebrate Christmas is a question that only you can answer. For myself, we celebrate Christmas because Christ is the center of our heart and celebration. It reminds me of our overflowing blessings in Christ, whose entrance into the world we celebrate. No, December 25th isn't the actual birthday of Jesus, but it doesn't make it any less worth celebrating.

"Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift." 2 Corinthians 9:15.

"On December 25th, 336, over three hundred years since Jesus' death, the earliest Christmas celebration was recorded."

Sweetest Blessings,
Jo
