"Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time.” Jonah 3:1
When you hear the bible story about Jonah, you feel really sorry for the poor guy. He really suffered! But here's the thing, Jonah wasn't such a nice guy. Because Jonah was a prophet, God gave him one task, to go to Ninevah and preach to the people about their sinfulness. Jonah refused, he didn't like these people. He just left town and got on a ship and went to sleep. Hum? God sent a huge storm. Jonah assured the crew it was him that God was mad at and fearing for their lives, they threw Jonah overboard. A great fish comes along and swallows him. Fast forward three days and the fish vomits Jonah on the beach. Oh, God's is not through with Jonah yet! He repeated his command to him to go to Ninevah. I think it shows the grace of God that He gave Jonah a second chance. The story of Jonah is the amazing tale of a disobedience. I wonder how many times we disobey God and we suffer terrible hardships because of it? God calls us, but we rebel. Because He loves us, God gives us second chances.
