True Humility Exalts God

"The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor and life." Proverbs 22:4

What do you think of when you hear the word humility? Do you think of humility as the opposite of confidence? Maybe, but I happen to know many delightful people that are both confident and humble. The difference is where our confidence comes from. Does it come from man or God! Humility focuses on Jesus while pride focuses on ourselves. It’s the one trait that when we think we’ve got it, we’ve probably lost it! There's not a worse trait then to be confident but not humble, it comes across as conceited and it puts off other people and it insults God.  In its most basic definition, humility is recognizing who we are and who we are not; it means honoring God as God and remembering our limits as human beings. In this sense, humility is more than a nice personality trait; it is giving glory to God. Pride always exalts itself above the will of God. Humility is exalting God before our will. Humility always puts others before ourselves, by doing this...we exalt God.

“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory!” Psalm 115:1
