Three Sick Women

Extraordinary Women Of The Bible
"Three Sick Women"
Women in Christ's Time

Woman With Fever
Woman With Issue Of Blood

Woman Crooked For 18 Years
Three Sick Women; "And Jesus Healed Them All"

Key Scripture:

Woman With Fever: Matthew 8:14, Mark 1:30-31, Luke 4:38-39.

Woman With Issue Of Blood: Matthew 9:20-22, Mark 5:25-34, Luke 8:43-48.

Woman Crooked For 18 Years: Luke 13:11-13.

Pre-Story: Not every women mentioned in the Bible has a gigantic story. But every women's story mentioned has a purpose for every generation. Sprinkled throughout the Gospels there are mention of three women with separate issues that Jesus healed them from. One had a high fever from which she could not arise. One had a hemorrhage for 12 years. Another had been bent in body for 18 years. Jesus in His infinite mercy healed them all.
Their Story:

Woman With Fever: The woman that had laid ill with a high fever was the mother-in -law of Simon, to whom Jesus later gave the name of Peter. "When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever." (Matthew 8:14). We can imagine that she assisted much in the ministry of her disciple son-in-law, but now she had what Luke, the physician, calls a "great fever," and was so sick that she could not arise. More then likely it was Malaria that she was so ill with. We can imagine that she was woman with long gray hair and a worn countenance, and that her son-in-law had a genuine affection for her. Now it was probably early afternoon, when the fever had risen to it's highest point, and the woman's family sat anxiously watching her. Jesus came to her bedside and merely touched her and the fever left her body. After she was healed "she ministered to them." All three gospel writers, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, report this fact. Because she felt that she owed her life to Christ, she could express her gratitude only in service in His ministry.

Woman With Issue Of Blood: This woman had an issue of blood for twelve long years and she was wasting away with what she thought was an incurable disease. She was very weak and weary and disheartened, for she had suffered many things by many physicians and had spent all that she had, and nothing worked, but rather grew worse. Even Luke the physician, admitted she could not be healed by a physician. This woman, according to the law of the time, was regarded as unclean and was restricted in her contact with others. Dared she expect even a light touch from Jesus? But she believed that if she could merely touch His garment she would be made whole again. So it was she gently touched the broad edging of His long tunic. She felt His healing throughout her body immediately, and He too sensed that power had gone from him, for he turned and said, "Who touched me?" (Mark 5:21). She was healed and went forth healed.

Woman Crooked For 18 Years: This woman had a spirit of infirmity for 18 years. Her body was bent over and crooked. Probably, she had suffered from a serious accident or from some crippling disease like arthritis. She had lost all hope because her body had been bent for so long. Then, on the Sabbath, she came before Jesus in her crippled condition. So serious was her ailment that she could not even raise up and look into His face. Turning to her, Jesus laid His hands upon her, He said, "Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity." (Luke 13:12). The most amazing thing about this woman, Luke tells us, is that she glorified God. She did not take her healing for granted, but she offered a prayer of adoration to the Giver of all good.

All three of these women had long term illnesses. More then likely they had lost all hope. All three had faith in their Lord. All three heard "Thy faith hath made thee whole." The healing of these women, one with a fever, one with an issue of blood, and one with infirmity, makes more insistent the question, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40). The glory of Christ is that He succeeds where others fail. He brings healing when doctors say none is possible. He offers forgiveness when the heart says it can never be forgiven. He extends comfort when the agony is too great to carry and peace when all is in chaos. He presents the possible after all the impossibility.

Their Place in God's Divine Plan: Three physically ill women come to Jesus. All three go their way whole again. God's faithfulness stretches back to the very beginning of history. He knew that every generation would find their faith called into action. Jesus Christ's is still the Great Physician and is still healing patients today. It is through the testimonies of healing that give faith to those who need healed.

Their Victories: Each of these ladies suffered greatly but never lost their faith. Faith stands the testament of time.

Lesson We Can Learn from Her Legacy: Trying to live a Christian life without faith is like being in an ocean and not being able to see the rocky shore for the fog or driving around a corner not knowing what's there. It doesn't comfort you, In fact, it ushers in fear. Once fear has arrived your faith begins to rapidly diminish. If you feel the spark of faith fading, ask God to take the little that you have and fan it into a flame. Before you go to bed each night, remind yourself to pray specifically for more faith and then wake up each morning and thank God for that extra dose of faith. Then, walk that faith out in your day, leaving no room for doubt. You too will hear, "Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity." (Luke 13:12).
