"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Isaiah reminds us of God’s gift of Jesus as our "Prince of Peace" (Sar-shalom).
The longing of every human heart is for peace. (Shalom) So many wish to live in peace and quietness without the fear of war, turmoil, confusion, and strife. Yet worry is a tough foe. Our minds are vigilant in toying with problems. To this restless world God sent the Prince of Peace. "And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7) This week as we look forward to celebrating Christmas with family, the stress of hectic schedules and demands on our time take their toll. When family scene seems anything but "Heaven on Earth," remember Jesus is the Prince of Peace. The Lord's peace is different from the world's peace; it is heavenly and not dependent on outward circumstances. Jesus Himself was fond of saying, “Go in peace” and “Peace be unto you.” On that extraordinary night when heaven broke open and angels filled the sky proclaiming the birth of our Savior they were proclaiming for all people and all time; “Peace on earth . . .” Grace and peace be unto you.
