Being Selfless in a Selfish World

What's on My Heart Today

Being Selfless in a selfish World

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, values others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others." Philippians 2:3-4.

Selfless or Selfish...No one wants to be called 'selfish,' but truth is the world is full of selfish people. "All have sinned." To some extent, it is natural to be self-oriented. After all, we are at the center of our own world! We were all born sinners and our natural state of being is one of complete and utter selfishness. The problem is, selfishness is a sin! The word tells us, "an unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgement starts a quarrel." (Proverbs 18:1.) A selfish person puts their own needs above others. Givers will give more than they get. Ask yourself, is your attitude one of greed or generosity? There are many reasons why people are selfish, but being able to identify the causes will strengthen your relationships. It takes profound empathy and compassion to place another person's needs before yours. Understanding and accepting this fact is one of the first steps to building valuable relationships with others. God planned for His children to rely on each other, which includes both providing and receiving help. Living generous lives not only blesses others, it glorifies God. Call it grace...selflessness is love!

"We should stop looking out for our own interests and instead focus on the people living and breathing around us." 1 Corinthians 13:13.

May the Lord multiply His grace towards you,
Sweetest Blessings,
Jo
