The Widow's Two Mites

What's On My Heart Today "The Widow's Two Mites"

"And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had." Luke 21:1-4.

I love this story..."The Widow's two mites." By giving all that she had, ever so small, her action revealed the Widow's heart, that her complete trust was in the Lord. She was the kind of person whom Paul later wrote about: "Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixed her hope on God and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day." 1 Timothy 5:5.

Jesus still watches the treasury of our heart. He weighs the value of the heart that contributes rather than the amount contributed. "For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have." 2 Corinthians 8:12. The generous woman and her widow’s mite remain a model for us, not that we should adopt a vow of poverty but that we should be poor in spirit, humble, self-sacrificing, and totally dependent on God. Amen!
